This longtime TIPS customer came to us with a clear need: it was time to rebuild the City-owned tennis facility that Blue Springs High School relies on every season. McConnell & Associates delivered a design-build facility upgrade, starting from the ground up with grading and drainage work to improve long-term performance, then moving into major reconstruction across every part of the complex.
We transformed the aging asphalt courts by grading in a new rock base and installing a post-tensioned concrete slab overlay, creating a stronger, more stable foundation built for high-use play. From there, we completed targeted asphalt patching, concrete tearout and replacement, and facility-wide improvements to elevate both function and flow. The upper three courts were shifted east to make way for a new sidewalk connection between the east and west courts, improving accessibility and circulation across the site. We also added a north-side sidewalk and poured a new bleacher pad on the east side to enhance the spectator experience and overall usability.
To address ongoing runoff issues, we installed new storm drainage along the north side, helping control stormwater and protect the surface and surrounding infrastructure. The finishing touches tied everything together: court surfacing, new court amenities/equipment, and fencing. Along with repairs and updates to key structural elements, including the retaining wall between the west courts (repaired and repainted) and the replacement of handrails and guardrails to create a safer, cleaner, more welcoming facility.
The result is a refreshed tennis destination that serves the City and supports Blue Springs High School with upgraded play, improved access, and smarter drainage built in for the long haul.
